Thea’s journey in the arts is as vibrant and expressive as her paintings. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) from the University of the Free State, where she conducted choirs and orchestras and shared her love of music by teaching piano for many years. Her talents also led her to work as a resident musical director, bringing productions to life on both local and international stages, including in Bucharest, Romania.
Beyond music, Thea has always had a deep love for visual and fine arts. She began her artistic journey with etching, batik, and silk painting, but her creative world expanded when her family emigrated to Bahrain, Cyprus, and Romania. In Bucharest, she discovered the intricate beauty of icon painting, which later led her to embrace the rich textures and expressive colours of oil painting.
Her artwork is a heartfelt reflection of the cultures she has encountered, the places she has travelled, and the people who have inspired her. Whether capturing idyllic landscapes or engaging moments, her canvases tell stories infused with warmth and wonder.
Thea has honed her craft through local workshops and masterclasses with renowned artists like Jennifer McChristian and Barry John Raybould. She has showcased her work in exhibitions such as Explosions de U ART Gallery in Romania, The IDC in Sandton, Art B Gallery in Cape Town, the RAP Exhibition at the Crowne Plaza, and the Rotary Exhibition in Rosebank.
Today, Thea’s paintings have found homes all around the world, and she continues to create from her studio in Johannesburg, South Africa—where her passion for art, culture, and storytelling comes to life on canvas.
